Mystery Quilt
Step 3 Lay out your backing (left side up) and cover it with the batting. Center your top (right side up) on the batting. Secure the layers. I prefer basting spray. DON'T CUT THE BACKING OR BATTING NOW!!! Cut four 1 inch strips from the long side of your Fat Quarter. Lay a strip -left side down- on the right edge of the top, cut to needed length, pin and sew with a 1/4" through all layers. Repeat first with the left side, then with the bottom and top edge. Iron seam into the strip. From your seamline (between top and strip) measure 1/2" and mark with a pencil line on the strip. u |
Step 4 Cut the 5" border fabric in two 2 1/2" strips. Measure your quilt (without batting) from top to bottom and cut the given length 1x from each strip. Lay a 2 1/2"strip as before on the right side, but the edge matching the pencil line, so you can still see about 1/4" of the small strip. Sew in place with a 1/4" seam from the edge of the second border. Repeat with the other 3 sides. Cut backing and batting to the quilt size and put the binding on. Make loops for hanging from the accent fabric and sew them to the back of your quilt.
