Threadspools

Before we continue adding the shelves trim your spool strips to the same length, leaving enough background fabric at the ends. I ended up with a length of 14 inch.

Cut the 1 1/4 inch B strips in the length you measured before. You need 4 strips for the shelves. Do the same with the 1 inch D strips. Here you need 5 strips.

Sew on top of each spool strip a D strip. When you are done, cut away the overlaping "wood". Repeat by sewing the B strips to the bottom of each spool strip, but only to 4 strips.

Sew your 5 spool strips together, the last strip on the bottom doesn't have a shelf added now ! Press the seams away from the spools. Measure the length from top to bottom through the center and cut 2 strips from the 1 1/2 inch "browns" in just that size. Add them to the left and right size of your top. Measure again to get the size of the width of your top. Make another 2 cuts from the brown strips and add them to the top and bottom of your top.

There are only the borders left to add before you can start with the quilting part. I was brave enough to make borders with mitered corners, but you can also add the 2 1/2 inch border strips the same way you did with the shelf frame.

If there are any questions you know where to reach me.

I hope you enjoyed this technique of making spools.
