Threadspools

Take a wooden strip and position it with the raw edge, right side facing the spools along the marked lines. Leave enough of the strip on both ends, at least 1 inch. Pin in place.
Sew a 1/4 inch from the edge of the wooden fabric, but only aslong as the spools are, securing the begin and end with a few backstitches. It doesn't hurt when you get a stitch too long or short. The spool will then look a little overfilled or empty.

Now when you have sewn a strip to top and bottom you are allowed to cut the wooden strip in the center between the spools.
